Located amongst the foothills of the Krkonose mountains in a pristine basin valley, the picturesque city of Lazne Belohrad is protected by the bluish ridge of Chlum to the south-west, with the hill of Kamenna hura towering to the north and the castle ruins of Kumburk and Bradlec, whilst the mountain top of Tabor can be seen to the west. The entire basin valley of Belohrad is watched over by the hill of Zvicina, atop which is a chalet for tourists..

The rich peat deposits formed the basis of the peat baths. Now refurbished, the spa resort provides adults and children with treatments that have favourable effects on all kinds of locomotive organ problems like rheumatic diseases, back pain, Bechterew's disease, arthritis, conditions following injuries and orthopaedic surgery. The spa has a great reputation at home and abroad.

The town is home to a music ensemble, founded by Mr Horenak back in 1949, which celebrates folk traditions, amongst them tunes, dances and folk tales associated with the Krkonose foothills and the Podzvicinsko region. Since 1975, the group has organised a festival of songs and dances known as "Beneath Zvicina Hill", which takes place annually in the second half of June. This festival of folk traditions welcomes important performing groups from home and abroad. Furthermore, Lazne Belohrad is the place of birth of a famous Czech writer, Karel Vaclav Rais, and many other eminent personalities.

With abundant forests and well-preserved folk architecture, the surrounding countryside is truly unique. The area is crisscrossed with a dense network of marked hiking trails, with cycles routes being added more recently.

A nearby viewpoint called Bysicky relates to the story of a poem "The Wedding Shirt" by K J Erben. Standing beside the small church in Bysicky, one can admire a wonderful view, complete with new Stations of the Cross. The Krkonose mountain lookout point is one of the finest in the area. The village of Dolni Javori is full of rather unusual cottages. A crossroad for hiking trails is located on Lazne Belohrad’s main square.í.

belohrad_2_120The most fascinating historical sights of interest include the Castle of Pecka. Tradition of stone-cutting and sculpture is represented by Horice - the city of stone beauty. You can learn more about the extremely rich geological diversity of the region in the Treasury located in the city of Nova Paka. Other worthwhile places to visit include the poet K J Erben's birthplace in Miletin and the well-known zoological and safari park in Dvur Kralove, enhancing the attractions of the whole region.
